Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), a 2008 candidate for president who has become an Internet favorite, said Tuesday Republicans need to show the courage of Ronald Reagan to be able to withdraw troops from Iraq, according to Raw Story.Paul compared the Iraq "quagmire" to the U.S. involvement in Lebanon in the 1980s. Reagan pulled U.S. Marines out of Lebanon in 1984 after vowing not to pull troops out in 1983. Paul added that the war in Iraq is shrinking the Republican base and outlined his plan for ending the war.Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton separately announced their intentions Tuesday to vote in favor of cutting off funding for the war in Iraq, according to The Associated Press. They support a March 31, 2008 deadline for cutoff that the Senate is expected to vote on this week.
