Turkish Officials: Troops Enter Iraq
Thursday, June 07, 2007
Several thousand Turkish troops crossed into northern Iraq early Wednesday to chase Kurdish guerrillas who operate from bases there, Turkish security officials told The Associated Press.
That is not a good development!
The Kurds have been a stable area in Iraq, a success because it is peaceful. The Kurds who want their own country are a threat to the Turks with a sizable Kurdish population.
Turkish troops have staged so-called "hot pursuits" into northern Iraq in the past, usually after citing reports of attacks against Turkish soldiers in the border region.
Why do the Turks play by different rules than the US? We are getting attacked by insurgents from Syria and Iran, and just like in Vietnam, we are allowing them to operate from sanctuaries. Maybe, the Turks want to win!
