Majority Say Obama, Most Members of Congress Should Not Be Re-Elected

Fifty-two percent of Americans say that President Obama does not deserve re-election while 44 percent say he does, according to a CNN/Opinion Research poll conducted Feb. 12-15. And a lot of that sentiment applies to Congress as well.It seems hardly a day passes without another poll asking the public if it is in a throw-the-rascals-out mood in this midterm election year. The CNN survey found that while Americans, by a modest margin, say they would re-elect their own representative, a big majority would like to see most members of Congress lose their seats.Fifty percent of those polled would re-elect their current representative compared to 44 percent who would not, with 6 percent undecided. In fall 2006, 57 percent said they would send their representative back for another term and 33 percent said they would not. Sixty-two percent said they would like to see most members of Congress lose their jobs, while 35 percent would send them to Washington again. Three percent were undecided. In fall 2006, 52 percent said they wouldn't re-elect most members of Congress while 42 percent would.The findings about Congress were similar to the results of a Pew Research Center poll conducted Feb. 3-9.Republicans and Democrats fared about equally on the re-election question. Fifty-four percent did not want to see most Democratic members of Congress re-elected while 56 percent said the same of Republicans.
